Global Food Ingredients Exhibition is First to Enter the African Market
Maarssen, 26 June 2007 – CMP information announced today that it will expand its food ingredients exhibition portfolio in January 2008 when it introduces the popular Fi brand to the African market. Fi Africa 2008 will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa from 22-23 January 2008. The exhibition and conference is supported by the well respected South African Association for Food Science & Technology (SAAFoST) and the South African Food Review.
The Fi Africa exhibition provides a platform for ingredients specialists to showcase their food ingredients to the growing African market. And, at the same time, Food industry professionals from Africa and the rest of the world will get an opportunity to see the latest innovations in the industry, establish important business contacts and discuss trends with their peers.
The Fi Africa conference will focus on the crucial trends and issues within the industry and will provide insight into the direction of the African market and what it can offer local and international companies.
Greg Cherry, Event Director, Food ingredients Europe and Africa, commented “We are excited about bringing our brand to the African market. We are even more excited that SAAFoST and the South African Food Review are supporting this event. Our aim is to create a forum that brings together, under one roof, local and international exhibitors, visitors and speakers who are recognised authorities in the African food ingredients market. We believe that SAAFoST’s reputation in this area will help us to meet that objective.”
Already established on 3 continents and in 10 different countries, the Food ingredients (Fi) exhibitions have gained a well-deserved reputation for providing a professional platform for local, regional and international food ingredients specialists to do business.
South Africa was a logical next step for the Food ingredients brand. It is the most developed nation in Africa and is a catalyst for providing change within the rest of the continent. It accounts for 6% of the continents population and 50% of its purchasing power. The South African food industry sells 20.4 million tonnes of food per annum. The food industry is the second largest employer in the country with over 1.5 million workers and there are over 2,500 food manufacturers in 16 different sectors.
Rosie Maguire, President elect of SAAFoST summed up the state of the food industry in Africa perfectly, “The African food industry is diverse and evolving as consumer needs and aspirations align with global trends. Poverty, affluence and the process of transition from the one to the other all present numerous opportunities and challenges for food manufactures.”
